Part-Time Case Manager Position

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Disabled Rights Action Committee is a small case management agency in Salt Lake City Utah. We help individuals with disabilities move from institutional settings into integrated community-based environments and help to ensure that their needs are safely met. Our organization also works to establish equal rights for people with disabilities through enforcement of federal and state laws.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete initial comprehensive assessments as well as periodic reassessments to determine services and supports required by clients to prevent unnecessary institutionalization
  • Research the availability of non-Medicaid resources needed by clients 
  • Act as the client’s advocate as it relates to insurance coverage and financial assistance
  • Assist clients in gaining access to available Medicaid State Plan services
  • Locate appropriate home and community-based settings and assist with negotiation of rental agreements when needed
  • Maintain the client’s record through detailed documentation.
  • Monitor to assure provision and quality of services. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field
  • Required: Licensed as a Social Service Worker (SSW), Certified Social Worker (CSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) 
  • Case management certification (CCM) preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience, preferably in case management or related area
  • Preference given to applicants experienced with the New Choices Waiver program

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Willing to travel to visit clients located in Salt Lake County and Utah County
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Available to attend virtual weekly staff meetings
  • Commit to 10-20 hours per month

Non-Profit Grant Writing Internship

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you interested in pursuing a career where grant writing will be considered an asset? If you are planning on working in the non-profit sector, grant-writing is an invaluable skill for folks working in a wide variety of specialties. We are looking for a student to help us prepare first drafts of our grant materials, proofread finalized grant materials, and generate financial reports. We will provide the training necessary to complete these tasks effectively, and all work will be reviewed by an experienced grant writer. We will provide detailed feedback and will provide any needed letters of recommendation going forward.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft grant materials with training and input from an experienced staff member
  • Proofread final grant materials after they have been edited and reviewed by an experienced staff member
  • Generate the financial reports needed for grants (training provided, no experience needed)
  • Provide other miscellaneous office support as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College-level student pursuing a degree in a related field
  • Very strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Case Management Internship

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you a student planning a career in social work or case management? The Disabled Rights Action Committee is a small case management agency that serves clients under the Utah New Choices Waiver. We help our clients move out of nursing homes and into community-based care, and then help to coordinate all of the services each client needs to live safely and independently. Case management is the process of assessing, planning, facilitating, and coordinating all of the services needed to meet an individual’s comprehensive needs. We are looking for an intern to support our case managers by completing office tasks and assisting with record keeping.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete miscellaneous office tasks, including printing, faxing, emailing, and updating records
  • Follow up with service providers to make sure that we receive signatures on necessary documents
  • Make exploratory phone calls to help case managers determine which options are available to clients
  • Support case managers with other tasks as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College-level student pursuing a degree in a related field (social work, nursing, medicine, disability studies, public policy, political science, English, history, education, etc.)
  • Very strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Digital Humanities Internship

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you a student looking for an internship in the social sciences or humanities? Come work for the Disabled Rights Action Committee and help us transition our archives into the 21st century. We are looking for a well-organized and detail-oriented intern to help us transition our materials to a digital format and provide support in other areas as needed. This position is not paid, but offers flexible scheduling to accommodate a student schedule and other life commitments. We want this opportunity to be mutually beneficial, and we are open to customizing this position to allow an intern to develop experience in the areas they most need to be successful in their career of choice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and carry out a project digitizing company records and documents in collaboration with other volunteers
  • Look for opportunities to move from print to digital formats and assist in this transition
  • Ensure consistent file structure and naming conventions
  • Audit materials for accessibility and ensure that accessibility best-practices are maintained throughout the organization
  • Draft grant materials and search for grant opportunities
